1.
(Verse 1) Christian, oh Christian, why are you afraid “My city will be burned with fire. How will I escape?” Christian, oh Christian, where are you to go? I must run to Jesus Christ, He is my only hope (CHORUS) Flee from this world of destruction Leave all you love here behind Run to the Lord for salvation He is the way, the truth, and the life (Verse 2) Christian, oh Christian, how will you find Christ? “The way to Him is in this book, the written word of Life Christian, oh Christian, what is it you read? “Deny yourself. Take up your cross. Come and follow Me.” (Verse 3) Christian, oh Christian, will we all be saved? “Few will find the gate of life, the straight and narrow way” Christian, oh Christian, what are we to do? Repent of sin. Believe in Christ. Obey His word of truth.
2.
(Verse 1) The Obstinate will never leave, this life to follow Christ His stubborn, hard, unyielding heart will lose eternal life The Pliable will hear the word, and trust so easily Affliction and despair will bend his will to turn and leave (Verse 2) The Christian reads the promises found in the book of God They give him Help to carry through the Slough of his Despond The Wisdom of the World cannot deliver you from sin The values of society will crush you in the end (CHORUS) Ask and He will give it to you Seek and you will find Knock and He will open to you The gate that leads to life (Verse 3) Beelzebub shoots arrows at the ones who near the gate The grace of God will shield and guard all those who come by faith The gate is small, the way is hard, to everlasting life Enter through the narrow gate, for there you will find Christ
3.
Our Father sends Interpreters to guide us in this life His Pastors called to lead His church and teach the Words of Christ So listen little children for these truths bring hope and fear Believe His word and keep your pathway clear The law of God stirs up our sin, reveals our filthy hearts The Gospel washes us within, to cleanse our soul for God Though Passion wants his treasure now, he loses all with death But Patience waits for his inheritance The Devil seeks to quench the fire of grace that God began But Christ protects and He perfects our faith until the end Few will fight through trials in life for treasures that await The resolute enter heaven’s gate Beware the dark despair, the man imprisoned by his sin Who turned away from truth and grace and now cannot repent Beware the day of judgment come and you be left behind Repent, believe, and follow Jesus Christ Remember true Interpreters will guide you in this life A faithful shepherd leads the church and feeds the sheep of Christ So Listen little children for His truth brings hope and fear Obey His word He will draw you near
4.
(Verse 1) Jesus Christ bore our sins as He hung on the cross By the blood of the Lamb we are ransomed and bought He was pierced for our sin, He was crushed for our guilt By His blood we are cleansed, by His wounds we are healed (Chorus) If you come to the cross you will find your relief He will cast all your sin to the depths of the sea He will clothe you with Christ and forgive all your sin He will give you His Spirit and seal you in Him So come to the cross and worship the Lamb (Verse 2) We were dead in our sins, we were hopeless and lost Holy God took on flesh then He went to the cross In the darkness He drank all the wrath we deserve So that we could receive what we never could earn
5.
(Verse 1) From the cross to the grave, we find along the way A hill steep and tall, but do not be afraid We will persevere, true faith grows strong in trials We grow even though, we suffer for a while (Verse 2) On this difficult hill there is a resting place Where Christians will feel, true comfort, hope and grace We seek our relief, we find security We rest and we sing, we grow in joy and strength (CHORUS) The Palace Beautiful, the Church of Jesus Christ The resting place of God for His pilgrims in this life The Palace Beautiful, the house of God, the church A taste of heaven now while we journey here on earth This is the palace beautiful, This is the holy church (last line only) (Verse 3) In the church we converse, we speak of Christ our King We worship and serve, with thankfulness we sing We grow more mature, His word will unify Until we are all, with Jesus glorified (Verse 4) In the church we put on, the armor of the Lord We stand firm and strong, against this evil world We have righteousness, we do the will of God We seek holiness, we walk like Jesus walked
6.
Down, down, down, down, down in the valley below (Verse 1) Down from the Palace so Beautiful. Down in the valley below Deep in the darkness stood a wicked foe. Down in the valley below The devil is a ruthless enemy. Down in the valley below He stands against Jesus Christ our King. Down in the valley below (Verse 2) Apollyon prowls like a hungry lion. Down in the valley below. Christian clinging to the word of Christ. Down in the Valley below. Resist the devil and he will flee. Down in the valley below. Submit to Jesus our Christ and king. Down in the valley below (CHORUS) Though I fall, I will rise, Though I fall, I will rise, Though I fall, I will rise Though I dwell now in the darkness, Jesus is my light Though I walk now through the valley, He is by my side (Verse 3) Down to the valley of the shadow of death. Down in the valley below. Deep in the darkness by the flames of hell. Down in the valley below. The Pope and the Pagan and their tyranny. Down in the valley below. I fear no evil, Christ travels with me. Down in the Valley below.
7.
(CHORUS) Talk, Talk, Talking with Talk, Talk, Talkative Everyday he’s talking but he’s walking like a hypocrite Talk, Talk, Talking with Talk, Talk, Talkative Everybody’s tired of it, stop!!! (Verse 1) He looks better when he’s real far off But he’s ugly when you get real close He likes to talk about religious things But he’s living like the devil, he’s… (Verse 2) He thinks knows about the things of God But he talks about himself a lot He talks the talk but never walks the walk He’s a hearer not a doer he’s… (Verse 3) Faith without works is a worthless faith You don’t believe me, read the book of James Even demons are believin’ in God But they’re destined for the fire like…
8.
Vanity Fair, Vanity Fair, All of the world is a vanity fair! Vanity Fair, Vanity Fair, All of the world is a vanity fair! While we are on earth, living in this life, We will walk through Vanity, on our way to Christ Everything we see, all that we desire, All of this is vanity, fated for the fire Vanity Fair, Vanity Fair, All of the world is a vanity fair! If you love the world, they will love you too, If you are not of the world, they will fight with you Do not love the world, nor the things it holds, All that is within the world, battles for your soul Vanity Fair, Vanity Fair, All of the world is a vanity fair! Vanity Fair, Vanity Fair, All of the world is a vanity fair! These are not from God, selfishness and pride, Do not trust the sinful lust of your heart and mind This will pass away, all the world will die, Those who do the will of God, gain eternal life Vanity Fair, Vanity Fair, All of the world is a vanity fair! Those who love the world, do not love the Lord, Fix you eyes on Jesus Christ, He is our reward The kingdom of the world, will belong to Christ, We will stand faithful to Him, even if we die Vanity of vanities! All is vanity!! Vanity of vanities! All is vanity!!
9.
(Verse 1) Worldly religion may call itself Christian But has an ambition that’s driven by pride Worthless tradition and vain adoration All for a mission to gain in this life (Chorus) The man that takes up religion So that he can gain the world Will throw away that religion Just to please and keep the world (Verse 2) Cultural Christians say what is needed To gain an advantage, to prosper and thrive Riches and profits, safety and comforts Reverence and honor, are all they desire (Ending) Woe to you, you hypocrites, who honor Jesus with your lips But have a heart, so far from God, you treasure-love and hold-the-world You claim the grace and love of God but live with reckless disregard Your counterfeit self-righteous heart infuriates the holy God The luster of your painted lives may dazzle undiscerning eyes But every man will come to die and face the wrath of Jesus Christ Woe to you, you hypocrites, Woe to you, you hypocrites Woe to you, you hypocrites, Woe to you, you hypocrites
10.
(Verse 1) When Christians leave the narrow way, to take the path of ease It leads to Doubting Castle where they find despondency For Jesus Christ is Truth and Light, to leave Him is a foolish plight Beware this road will lead to misery (Chorus) Beware!! Beware!! This route leads to Despair!! To hopelessness to diffidence, to sorrow, doubt, and fear Beware!! Beware!! This route leads to Despair!! Stay on the straight and narrow way! Beware!! (Verse 2) Jesus knows our suffering He walked this path before Now we are called follow in the footsteps of our Lord So hope in God. Wait for the Lord. His promises are our reward The love of Christ will guard us evermore (Ending) So hope in God. Wait for the Lord. His promises are our reward The love of Christ will guard us evermore
11.
(Verse 1) From the Mountains of God in Emmanuel’s land You can see the Celestial gate Like Interpreter’s House and the Beautiful Palace Here the Christian finds rest on his way (CHORUS) Welcome to His heavenly hills The Delectable Mountains of Christ We come to His heavenly hills The Delectable Mountains of Christ (Verse 2) Here the shepherds of Christ watch and care for His sheep They encourage and nourish the flock They restore every soul with the word of the Lord They deliver and gather the lost (Verse 3) Here the pastors of God warn and Caution His bride To prevent their descent into Error They admonish the church and they sanctify her They instruct with great patience and care
12.
(Verse 1) In the Country of Conceit Lies a crooked path that guides the misconceived Some will journey in the spring But they Fall Away into Apostasy Many wander on their own In their Ignorance convinced they’re never wrong Others scoff at Jesus Christ But the Atheist will miss the Gospel’s light Listen to and trust the word of God (CHORUS) Evil men pretend to live as followers of Christ Arrogant and wise in their own eyes Covered in self-righteous skin these devils in disguise Wisdom lies within the book of life (Verse 2) In the Country of Deceit Lurks the Flatterer with smooth enticing speech If you listen to his words You will tarry there ensnared by what you heard Even Satan in his lies Will disguise himself an angel of the light Keep your eye on factious men You avoid, reject, and turn away from them (Bridge) Do not be deceived, in the end sin will increase Do not be deceived, what you sow is what you reap Do not be deceived, false apostles will mislead But their end will be according to their deeds
13.
(Verse 1) Beware of the Enchanted Ground The ones who sleep are never found Be on alert, stand firm in faith Be on your guard, loyal and brave (Chorus) If I had a thousand lives I would live them all for Christ So if I live or if I die I give my life for Jesus Christ (Verse 2) Why do you sleep? Get up and pray The time has come to be awake The night is gone, the day is near The Lord returns, now stand prepared (Verse 3) The sons of night, will not escape And those who sleep, will not awake Forsake you sin and run to Christ He is the Way, the Truth, the Life
14.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Amen! Rejoice, be glad, give glory, glory to Him Draw near, behold, and worship, Jesus the Lamb

about

www.faithcommunitychurch.org/pilgrims-progress/

During the 2020-21 school year, elementary students at Cherokee Christian School journeyed through the Pilgrim’s Progress. Teacher’s read the book to their children, and the chaplain taught through the principles of this timeless Christian classic in chapel each week. He also wrote music to accompany the teaching of the precepts of God’s word explained and illustrated in the book. Each week the children would sing songs to remind them of the story, and more importantly, the truths of God’s word which they cannot forget.

The songs were purposed to remind the children of the imminence of judgment, the importance of repenting of sin, believing in Jesus Christ as our only Lord and Savior, and submitting to and obeying His word for the entirety of out earthly existence. Just like Christian in the story, we will face many dangers, many distractions, and many devious distortions of the truth of God’s word. We must keep our eyes on Jesus Christ. We must keep His book in our hands and heart. We must stay on the straight and narrow way to Him. We must persevere to the end where His children will see Him face to face in His heavenly home.

Little Children from Cherokee Christian School and anyone else who reads these words and hears these songs, do not forget the words of our Lord Jesus Christ:

“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.” (Matthew 7:21)

Thank you to all of the children, teachers, and administrators at Cherokee Christian School who fought through trials and troubles this school year! The Lord allowed many trying circumstances in many of our lives, but I am so thankful to see His good work and His perfect plans playing out in all of our lives. Chapel has been so much fun this year! Everyone sang so loud and so wonderfully!! Thank you to Mrs. Hartwell for her leadership, Mrs. Caughman for her help, and Chris Akins for the beautiful artwork. Thank you to all the teachers for putting up with the ups and the downs as we sang!! Thank you to all of the children who helped with slides, hand motions, and clean up! Thank you most of all to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is so patient, gracious, merciful, and kind to us!! His love is incomprehensible, but best displayed by the fact that He willingly laid down His own life, to save wretched, wicked sinners like you and me!
